August is one of the most upscale restaurants in New Orleans, very upscale for its age. New Orleans is the kind of town where most nice restaurants would love you in jeans, as long as they are designer. August is among the few that is not. At August you are whisked away into a world of almost heavenly, culinary perfection. It is located in the Central Business District in a “French Creole building dating back to the 1800s. The interior is full of beautiful hardwood everywhere you turn.  The main dining room’s high ceilings, huge mirrors, and oversized windows give it a very majestic feeling. There is also a banquet room available and a wine room which seats 24. The wine list is overwhelming, but a knowledgeable sommelier will be by to help you shortly.  As if he is not already present, then comes the food of Executive Chef John Besh. You will most likely be presented an amuse-bouche in the classic manner. Usually it is an eggshell full of some sort of delectable seafood foam.  The world has made me skeptical of foam, but when done right the light texture, mixed with an amazing flavor can be enjoyably confusing for the mouth.  Everything on the menu comes out breathtaking. The oysters three ways are a must if the season is right. Besh is very seasonal, and being a local chef, very loyal to local ingredients. John Besh’s careful attention to detail and quality, produce some of the best dishes New Orleans has to offer. John Besh is quickly becoming one of the most well known chefs in the country. He is on the Food Network, making a good name for New Orleans every time I turn around.
